Pawnbrokers have a rich history in Canada, as an industry we even predate the founding of our Country. We have been called ‘ The People’s Bank‘ because we are local, accessible, and willing to work directly with clients to meet their needs. Each pawn transaction puts money into the hands of people who need it for food, fuel or unexpected expenses. No other mainstream financial agency works at this level or with this speed.
As a niche industry pawn shops are typically misunderstood by the media, the public, and by lawmakers. In fact, opinions are often shaped by portrayals on TV and in the movies instead of facts and research. This is why the C.P.A. exists: to provide a more balanced, educated and unbiased perspective on the industry.
As an association we intend to drive value for our membership through industry partnerships, peer mentorship, and educational opportunities. Pawnshops have a history tracing back to pre-Roman times (read more HERE). We have deep roots in the past but we also embrace the future. The C.P.A. is here to build that path forward.
